have you seen this?

For someone who is using this bin every day I have to say I noticed the EfW sign only recently. Energy from Waste means that this waste is being incinerated and turned into energy.

The details of the process from source to source differs a lot. Some say that the process is a great solution to waste disposal issues as well as creates "renewable" energy, win win situation really. Others say that the process creates air pollution and toxic ashes, an even if those are treated it still is not sustainable solution as it supports creating more and more waste. Nevertheless everyone does agree that waste incineration is much better option than landfill.

From what I have read incineration can be a great solution if done up to the most recent standard. But I also have to agree that it doesn't help with encouraging reduction, reuse or recycling of materials, what's the point of making all the effort of recycling if we can just burn the waste for energy?

In perfect world incineration would be used only as the last resort for those materials that can't be recycled, but as history shows humans posses the ability to abuse even the greatest inventions.

Also worth mentioning that there are only few EfW facilities in UK and according to people working in the field most waste to be incinerated from UK is sent to Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Estonia.
